COVID MIGRATION
Documented during the 2020 nationwide lockdown in India. Published in Outlook Magazine.
In March 2020, India suddenly went into lockdown. Public transport stopped, and many people lost their jobs overnight. Migrant workers started walking back to their villages. This work documents that time for editorial use.
Approach: I worked on highways, focusing on people walking and going back home. The focus was on their tiredness and situation. I did not interfere and kept a distance while taking photos. I travelled from Mumbai to Sendhawa (M.P.), stayed in Nashik, and went on the highway every day for the shoot.
Outcome:
The work was published as part of editorial coverage during the COVID-19 lockdown and contributes to the visual record of the migration crisis in India.
